Who is this programme for?

Employees, supervisors and maintenance personnel who need to recognise electrical hazards and understand safe work boundaries.

What will you learn?

Recognise electrical hazards and understand the responsibilities and controls that prevent unsafe exposure.

  • Shock, burns, arc-related hazards and unsafe equipment conditions.
  • Isolation, protective arrangements and qualified versus unqualified responsibilities.
  • Portable equipment, overhead services and reporting electrical defects.

Why do electrical responsibilities need clear boundaries?

Different workers encounter electrical equipment in different ways. A user may need to recognise damage and report a defect, while a competent electrical worker has a technical role in testing or maintenance. Confusing those responsibilities can create additional exposure.

General safety learning helps people understand the purpose of isolation, suitable equipment and controlled work arrangements. It supports better communication between users, supervisors and electrical specialists without encouraging people to undertake tasks beyond their training and authorisation.

How is the published knowledge assessment structured?

The OSHAS programme page describes an open-book knowledge assessment with 2 hours allowed and a minimum pass score of 65%. These are the rules for this programme, not a universal pass mark for every OSHAS course. Practical duties also require competence appropriate to the work.

Does general electrical safety qualify me as an electrician?

The course develops hazard awareness and understanding of controls. It does not replace the technical qualification, practical competence or authorisation needed for electrical installation or live work. Knowing when to stop and refer a concern is valuable for both technical and non-technical personnel.
