Who is this programme for?
Emergency response coordinators, team members, supervisors and staff involved in workplace preparedness and drills.
What will you learn?
Build a coordinated approach to preparedness, communication and response when normal work is disrupted by an emergency.
- Identifying credible emergency scenarios and assigning response responsibilities.
- Communication, evacuation, resources and coordination with outside responders.
- Drills, debriefing, recovery planning and review of emergency arrangements.
What can a team learn from an emergency exercise?
An exercise can reveal whether people know their responsibilities and whether communication and resources work together. A plan may look complete on paper but still contain unclear handovers or assumptions that become visible during a scenario.
Reviewing the exercise helps assign improvements and test them again. The course’s planning focus is useful for connecting those observations with training needs, emergency contacts and recovery arrangements, rather than judging success only by how quickly an exercise ended.
How is the published knowledge assessment structured?
The OSHAS programme page describes an open-book knowledge assessment with 2 hours allowed and a minimum pass score of 65%. These are the rules for this programme, not a universal pass mark for every OSHAS course. Practical duties also require competence appropriate to the work.
Does joining an emergency response team qualify me for specialist rescue?
A team plan needs clear boundaries. Coordination, evacuation support, first aid and specialist rescue have different competence requirements. Training should match the role assigned to you and the equipment and hazards at the site, with drills that test how the team works together.
