Who is this programme for?

Employees and supervisors whose activities affect waste, emissions, resource use or environmental compliance.

The Level 3 route develops a more supervisory view of environmental controls, assessment and performance within an organisation.

What will you learn?

Recognise how everyday work affects the environment and how organised controls improve environmental performance.

  • Environmental aspects and impacts associated with workplace activities.
  • Waste handling, pollution prevention and efficient use of resources.
  • Responsibilities, environmental management systems and performance review.

What is an environmental aspect, and what is its impact?

An aspect is an element of an activity that interacts with the environment, such as waste generation or energy use. Its impact is the resulting change, such as pollution or resource depletion. Making that connection helps a team decide where controls and monitoring are most useful.

For example, reviewing how a material is stored can involve waste prevention, spill control and disposal arrangements. The learning helps you connect these responsibilities with the wider environmental management approach.

How is the published knowledge assessment structured?

The OSHAS programme page describes an open-book knowledge assessment with 2 hours allowed and a minimum pass score of 70%. These are the rules for this programme, not a universal pass mark for every OSHAS course. Practical duties also require competence appropriate to the work.

How does environmental management relate to workplace safety?

Some activities affect both people and the environment, such as chemical storage or spill response. Environmental management also considers impacts beyond immediate worker exposure, including waste, water and emissions. Understanding the difference helps teams assign controls and monitor the right outcomes.
