Who is this programme for?

Forklift operators and supervisors responsible for load movement and interaction between trucks, pedestrians and work areas.

What will you learn?

Understand the connection between truck condition, load handling and workplace traffic controls in forklift operations.

  • Truck components, pre-use checks and reporting defects.
  • Load stability, visibility, manoeuvring and segregation from pedestrians.
  • Operating hazards, workplace rules and practical skills evaluation.

Why do pedestrians and operators need coordinated rules?

Forklift safety depends on the interaction between the vehicle, load, operator and work area. Visibility and routes can change when materials are stored differently or other tasks begin. Understanding those interactions helps explain why traffic arrangements are part of operator training.

Supervisors also need useful information about defects, near misses and changes in conditions. Clear reporting connects the operator’s observations with maintenance and site decisions, helping the organisation address risks beyond an individual driving technique.

How is the published knowledge assessment structured?

The OSHAS programme page describes an open-book knowledge assessment with 2 hours allowed and a minimum pass score of 70%. These are the rules for this programme, not a universal pass mark for every OSHAS course. Practical duties also require competence appropriate to the work.

Does one forklift course cover every truck and workplace?

Truck types, attachments, loads and site layouts vary. Training needs to match the equipment and be followed by workplace familiarisation and appropriate authorisation. Theory supports the practical element, but a knowledge test alone cannot demonstrate safe operation in the actual working environment.
