Who is this programme for?

Personnel preparing for atmospheric-testing responsibilities and supervisors coordinating hot work or confined-space activities.

What will you learn?

Learn the purpose and responsibilities of atmospheric testing before and during controlled high-risk work.

  • Oxygen, flammable and toxic-gas hazards and the purpose of monitoring.
  • Gas-testing equipment, its limitations and interpretation of displayed information.
  • Recording, communication, permit coordination and emergency awareness.

What makes a gas reading meaningful for work planning?

A reading needs context: the atmosphere being assessed, the instrument’s capabilities and the conditions at the time of testing. Training explains why equipment limitations, interpretation and communication are essential parts of the gas tester’s role rather than treating the display as a simple pass-or-fail answer.

Atmospheric information also needs to connect with the permit and the planned activity. Learners develop understanding of why changing conditions can require further review and why accurate records and clear reporting support decisions made by the responsible site personnel.

Does a gas-testing course itself grant site authorisation?

Authorisation is normally a separate employer or site decision. Training develops knowledge and skills, while the site must determine competence for its gases, equipment and procedures. Practical assessment and familiarisation with the actual instruments are important parts of that process.
