Who is this programme for?

Personnel working around hazardous substances, waste operations or emergency-response activities within the selected training scope.

The 24-hour programme addresses hazardous-waste and substance-related work within its stated scope. The appropriate route depends on exposure, activities and assigned responsibilities, not simply choosing the shorter programme.

What will you learn?

Understand hazardous-substance work through structured awareness of exposure, protection and emergency responsibilities.

  • Chemical and physical hazards, exposure awareness and site characterisation.
  • Protective arrangements, monitoring concepts and contamination control.
  • Emergency responsibilities, communication and the importance of practical competence.

Why do hazardous-substance duties need role-specific preparation?

Hazardous-waste operations and emergency response can involve different exposure conditions and responsibilities. A worker carrying out a planned task, a supervisor and a specialist responder do not necessarily need the same practical preparation. Understanding this helps learners select a route that fits the work.

The programme’s broad topics connect hazard information with protection, communication and response planning. Workplace application then depends on the site conditions, the equipment involved and the competence required for the assigned activity.

How is the published knowledge assessment structured?

The OSHAS programme page describes an open-book knowledge assessment with 2 hours allowed and a minimum pass score of 65%. These are the rules for this programme, not a universal pass mark for every OSHAS course. Practical duties also require competence appropriate to the work.

Are 8, 24 and 40-hour courses interchangeable?

No. A refresher and an initial programme serve different purposes, and required training depends on the work and exposure. Do not infer that a course title alone establishes compliance with every hazardous-waste or response requirement. Practical, supervised and employer-specific elements must match the intended role.
