Who is this programme for?

Supervisors, safety coordinators and managers who organise work, allocate resources and follow up safety performance.

This is the OSHAS Managing Safely programme. It is listed separately from IOSH Managing Safely; the issuing organisation and programme route are different.

What will you learn?

Connect risk decisions, workforce communication and follow-up so safety becomes part of how work is managed.

  • Risk assessment, management responsibilities and selection of controls.
  • Communication, training needs and the influence of leadership on safety culture.
  • Incident investigation, performance measures and improvement actions.

What makes a safety action plan useful?

A useful action plan connects a specific risk or weakness with an owner, resources and a way to judge completion. Closing an action should mean more than marking a box: the manager needs evidence that the change has been implemented and has addressed the issue.

The learning supports conversations with operations and maintenance teams. You can explain the risk, consider workable options and follow up the result without separating safety from everyday management decisions.

How is safety management different from hazard awareness?

Awareness helps a person recognise a problem. Management means organising how it is controlled: ownership, resources, communication and review. A useful management approach makes actions traceable and checks that controls remain effective when people, equipment or activities change.
