Who is this programme for?

Riggers, lifting-team members, supervisors and safety personnel involved in lifting and moving loads.

Rigger-III is presented as a foundation for people new to rigging. Learning concentrates on basic equipment, load awareness and simple rigging principles.

What will you learn?

Understand how equipment, load characteristics and clear team communication contribute to controlled lifting operations.

  • Lifting equipment and accessories, identification and pre-use condition checks.
  • Load characteristics, centre of gravity and the effect of rigging arrangements.
  • Lift planning, communication, exclusion areas and coordination of the lifting team.

Why do load characteristics matter before a lift?

Weight alone does not describe a lifting task. Shape, centre of gravity, attachment points and the planned movement affect the equipment and arrangements needed. The course develops understanding of these relationships so learners can participate more effectively in lift planning and communication.

Clear responsibilities are also important. The rigger, signaller, operator and supervisor contribute different knowledge to the operation. Understanding those interfaces helps identify concerns that require review before work proceeds.

How is the published knowledge assessment structured?

The OSHAS programme page describes an open-book knowledge assessment with 2 hours allowed and a minimum pass score of 65%. These are the rules for this programme, not a universal pass mark for every OSHAS course. Practical duties also require competence appropriate to the work.

Does a rigging certificate authorise every lift?

Lifts differ in load, configuration, equipment and complexity. Competence must match the role and work involved, with planning and supervision appropriate to the lift. A training title or level should not be treated as automatic authorisation for all sites or all lifting operations.
