Who is this programme for?
Scaffolding operatives and supervisors involved in erection, alteration or dismantling of scaffold structures.
What will you learn?
Develop understanding of scaffold construction, stability and the controls needed during erection and dismantling.
- Scaffold components, foundations, access and working-platform arrangements.
- Stability, bracing, ties and the importance of following the scaffold design.
- Work sequencing, handling materials, fall protection and protecting others nearby.
Why does the scaffold type change the training need?
Different systems and configurations have different components, stability arrangements and erection requirements. Recognising those differences helps explain why practical training and supervision should match the structure involved. General familiarity with scaffolding is not the same as experience with every configuration.
Learning also connects the construction sequence with risks to people nearby, access arrangements and material handling. This wider view helps the team coordinate work and recognise when a change needs specialist input or a revised plan.
How is the published knowledge assessment structured?
The OSHAS programme page describes an open-book knowledge assessment with 2 hours allowed and a minimum pass score of 65%. These are the rules for this programme, not a universal pass mark for every OSHAS course. Practical duties also require competence appropriate to the work.
Is scaffold assembly the same skill as scaffold inspection?
Assembly training concerns constructing and dismantling the structure safely. Inspection concerns judging the condition and suitability of the completed scaffold against the appropriate requirements. Both depend on the scaffold type and complexity; training and experience should fit the responsibility assigned.
