Who needs the Lead Implementer route?

The course is relevant to privacy managers, consultants and people responsible for implementing a privacy information management system. A fundamental understanding of information privacy is expected. The focus is building and improving the system, rather than independently auditing someone else’s implementation.

Five-day implementation and exam route

The published agenda moves through initiation, planning, implementation, monitoring and preparation for certification audit. Day 5 is the certification exam.

  • Define the implementation scope, roles and organisational privacy context.
  • Plan and establish privacy management arrangements and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor performance, address gaps and maintain continual improvement.

Does exam success grant Lead Implementer status?

The full Lead Implementer grade requires five years of professional experience, including two in privacy management, and at least 300 hours of PIMS project experience. PECB also provides a Provisional Implementer route without an experience requirement. Passing the exam and accepting the Code of Ethics are part of the certification route.

Is this the same as a privacy law qualification?

The training concerns implementation of a management system. Legal obligations are part of the organisational context, but specific legal advice and jurisdiction-dependent duties require appropriate specialist interpretation. The system helps organise accountability, evidence and review.
