Who is this SHA course for?
Healthcare professionals and community responders involved in cardiac or respiratory arrest care in hospital or prehospital settings.
What will you practise and study?
The in-person course combines explanation with instructor-led learning. The published classroom duration is 4 hours. The focus is acquiring and demonstrating skills in training, rather than learning emergency procedures from a webpage.
- Recognition of life-threatening emergencies and the place of basic life support in the response.
- CPR and AED skills developed through supervised practice.
- Communication and coordinated response in different care settings.
Does BLS cover the same content as a general first-aid course?
BLS is focused on resuscitation. A general first-aid course also covers a wider range of injuries and sudden illness. If your employer requests SHA BLS Provider, selecting a different first-aid certificate may not meet that request.
