Who is this SHA course for?
Healthcare providers giving direct or indirect care to critically ill children.
What will you practise and study?
The in-person course combines explanation with instructor-led learning. The published classroom duration is 2 full days. The focus is acquiring and demonstrating skills in training, rather than learning emergency procedures from a webpage.
- Recognition and assessment of paediatric respiratory and cardiovascular emergencies.
- Learning through skills stations, simulated cases and team discussion.
- Application of paediatric emergency knowledge with structured feedback and debriefing.
What preparation is required?
SHA requires a pre-course self-assessment score of at least 80%, with unlimited attempts. This is preparation for the course, not a published substitute for completing the course assessments. Set aside time to review the supplied learning materials before attendance.
How does PALS differ from adult advanced life support?
PALS centres on the assessment and emergency needs of children. It is relevant to professionals whose care responsibilities include critically ill paediatric patients. Adult ACLS and paediatric PALS serve different patient groups and are not interchangeable certificates.
